Interim Financial Controller – PE-Backed Professional Services Business

Contract Length: 6 months (FTC)

Location: London – Hybrid 2 days a week in the office

Start Date – Before 31st Dec.


Stanton House is partnering with a large PE-backed professional services business to appoint an experienced Interim Financial Controller on an initial 6-month FTC (potential for temp to perm). This is a hands-on role, reporting into the Divisional FD, supporting a business with a division generating approximately £200m in revenue. The role is critical for ensuring accurate financial reporting, optimising processes, and supporting year-end activities.


The business operates a lean finance function and is looking for a candidate who can lead reporting, forecast management, and financial analysis, while coaching and developing a small finance team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the accurate and timely reporting of all financial information, ensuring the P&L and balance sheet comply with Group accounting policies.
  • Produce monthly financial analysis, including variance analysis, aged debt review, and accrued income.
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring robust supporting evidence is maintained.
  • Lead continuous improvement of internal controls, financial systems, and reporting processes.
  • Prepare accounting papers for complex or ambiguous contract terms.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support business decision-making.
  • Manage and improve monthly forecast processes and track performance against outlooks.
  • Identify contract and business-level risks and opportunities, managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Support annual budgeting process with detailed analysis for management review.
  • Advise contract management teams on financial/commercial issues and attend client meetings where required.
  • Oversee statutory accounts production under FRS 101 and act as key point of contact for auditors.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a finance team of 4, and support the wider finance function including FSSC.
  • Undertake ad hoc financial analysis, projects, and reporting as needed.


To be suitable:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) with 6+ years PQE managing a finance function.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge
  • Proven FP&A experience delivering budgets and forecasts for multi-operation businesses.
  • Track record in financial reporting, audit support, and internal control improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build trust with senior stakeholders, auditors, and team members.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Hands-on, with attention to detail, able to thrive in a small, dynamic team.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills, capable of developing junior finance team members.
