Key Responsibilities Purpose of the role
We have an exciting opportunity in our Functional Pharmacology team, Oncology Research, for a 12-month placement (Year in Industry). We are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals who are keen to learn from Immunocore’s cutting-edge science and ongoing corporate growth.
This placement project will expand our cancer disease modelling capabilities by developing physiologically relevant 3D models using patient derived tissues. It forms a key part of the Functional Pharmacology team’s strategy to build translationally meaningful assays that characterise drug efficacy and mechanisms of action, and to support the design of next generation ImmTAX molecules capable of overcoming critical biological barriers within the tumour microenvironment.
Key Responsibilities
This project focuses on establishing and utilising translationally relevant ex vivo cancer disease assays using patient-derived tissue.
The role involves:
- Establishing methodologies for the preparation of patient derived tumour samples for use in in vitro assays, and optimising culture conditions to preserve tissue viability and functionality.
- Developing appropriate end point readouts using techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA, transcriptomics, immunofluorescent staining and imaging.
- Performing quantitative analysis and visualisation of experimental data, and interpreting results in the context of project objectives.
- Presenting experimental plans, results and conclusions in regular team meetings and data discussions.
Education & Qualifications
Currently studying towards a Biological Sciences, Biomedicine, Immunology, Biotechnology or (Bio)Chemistry or other related degree.

Please note this is a full-time position is based at our Abingdon, Oxfordshire office and contracted through a third party.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an in-person Assessment Centre on 23rd, 24th, 25th, or 26th February 2026, providing an opportunity to meet current placement students, learn about the role, and socialize with employees. Placements are expected to begin on 7th September 2026.
