Interim Head of Waste Management

Temporary | Full Time | Up to £650/day (Umbrella) | Chelmsford

We’re seeking an experienced senior leader to oversee waste operations for a major UK authority, managing 650,000+ tonnes annually across recycling centres, transfer stations, and closed landfill sites, with a workforce of 200+ staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency.
• Manage budgets of ~£90m and multi-million-pound contracts.
• Line manage 7 direct reports and oversee all operational staff.
• Deliver projects, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Chartered Waste Manager (MCIWM) with senior leadership experience.
• Proven track record managing waste contracts, budgets, and staff.
• Strong knowledge of legislation, operational best practice, H&S, and environmental compliance.
