AUTOMATIK VFX and THE POST REPUBLIC are London- and Berlin-based VFX and post-production studios operating under one shared creative mindset. Together, we deliver the full spectrum of digital image creation, from high-end visual effects to award-winning sound design and post-production.
THE POST REPUBLIC provides post-production services including digital on-set lab, editing, colour grading, sound design, mixing, and delivery. AUTOMATIK VFX delivers best-in-class visual effects for high-end TV and feature films.
In London, we operate from two neighbouring studios in Shoreditch, just 10 minutes from Old Street station.
Location
UK-based role only. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK. No relocation or remote working from outside the UK is available.
Our Work
Working largely as a sole vendor, we support productions from concept and pre-shoot design through post-vis to final image and sound delivery. Our award-winning creative team produces standout work for major clients including BBC, Disney+, Amazon Studios, Paramount, Sky, and others, consistently delivering high-quality, photo-real VFX.
The Role
Roto Artists are responsible for creating precise, frame-accurate mattes to isolate elements in live-action footage. This work is critical to enabling seamless integration of visual effects and supporting downstream departments. The role requires exceptional attention to detail and a strong understanding of the VFX pipeline. This role will last 3-6months.
Key Responsibilities
- Create accurate and detailed mattes of characters and objects in motion, including motion blur, to support 2D, 3D, FX, and animation workflows
- Deliver mid- or senior-level roto tasks (depending on level), meeting or exceeding bid days
- Provide layered roto shapes as rendered EXR sequences and Nuke nodes
- Submit work for review and respond to notes and feedback promptly
- Maintain consistency and quality across all frames
- Troubleshoot roto-related technical issues and ensure adherence to internal pipeline standards and naming conventions
- Communicate regularly with Production, Leads, VFX Supervisors, and Compositors regarding schedules, progress, and technical requirements
- Stay current with pipeline tools, software updates, and relevant technologies
- Perform quality control on work delivered by in-house artists and external vendors
- Work fully within the Automatik pipeline
Requirements
- Proficiency in industry-standard rotoscoping tools, with strong experience in Silhouette and Nuke; familiarity with Mocha is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in complex, frame-by-frame work
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality output
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Previous experience as a Junior Roto Artist, demonstrating a solid foundation in roto techniques
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with Linux-based operating systems
- Broad understanding of VFX production processes and compositing workflows
- Knowledge of prep work is considered a bonus
