Head of Credit/Market Risk Manager

Global commodities business, based in the City of London

Salary up to £150k plus benefits

The Head of Credit/Market Risk Manager reports to the Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director (CFO) and is responsible for managing, monitoring, and reporting credit/market risks related to commodity trading. The role requires experience in the commodities industry, technical expertise, commercial acumen, and cross-functional collaboration to support the growth of our client.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Prepare Customer onboarding applications and conduct financial analysis.
  • Manage annual credit limit renewals and coordinate with the Front Office and shareholders.
  • Define risk appetite and profitability metrics for new transactions.
  • Build relationships with counterparties and monitor their credit status.
  • Leverage network relationships to gain strategic intelligence on credit risk.
  • Publish daily credit exposure reports and ensure limits are maintained.
  • Manage PCGs, Bank Guarantees, and CSA terms in collaboration with Legal and Front Office.
  • Organize credit insurance processes, including due diligence and cost analysis.
  • Monitor and issue daily reports on trading positions, annual loss exposure (negative PnL + VaR), and liquidity risks.
  • Ensure all risk metrics—Actual Risk, PnL, VaR, and liquidity—remain within approved limits. Investigate and escalate issues as needed to the Management.
  • Optimize and streamline reporting processes using advanced quantitative skills and tools.
  • Review and update risk limits (e.g., Actual Risk, Annual Loss, VaR, liquidity) annually or as required.
  • Prepare documentation to support the renewal and optimization of market risk policies and control rules.
  • Apply a combination of risk management expertise and commercial awareness to support business objectives, balancing both risk and commercial perspectives.
  • Define risk appetite metrics and limits for new business transactions, supporting preparation of New Transaction Committee (NTC) documentation, and coordinate with relevant teams such as the front office and IT to implement developments into the ETRM system.


To be considered for this position, ideal candidates must have the following experience and skills;


  • Extensive experience (at least 10 years) in credit risk management, ideally in Precious metals and Base metals.
  • Strong knowledge of Precious metals, Base metals, Energy products and derivatives.
  • Experience in the commodities industry.
  • Credit reviews and financial analysis.
  • Risk mitigation using PCG, CSA, and credit insurance.
  • Structured transaction review and profitability analysis.
  • Expertise in key risk metrics such as VaR, position management, and liquidity risk, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communicator across all levels.
  • Proactive in identifying and managing risks.
  • Proven leadership in building collaborative, risk-aware teams.
  • Experience driving organization-wide initiatives.
  • Awareness of industry trends in commodities and risk.
