Electrical Engineer – Barnstaple, Devon

Job Type: Contract Inside IR35

Contract Length: 6+ months

Rate: £45-55 p/h

Our client is looking for an Electrical Engineer to help deliver mission-critical electrical systems for ships, weapon systems, and communication platforms. If you’re a hands-on, detailed-driven individual…then this is the perfect role for you!

What You’ll Do

• Design and develop electrical systems for sonar, control, and power distribution.
• Integrate subsystems into complex defence platforms.
• Ensure compliance with MIL-STD, DEF STAN, and EMC standards.
• Run testing, validation, and qualification activities.
• Produce clear schematics, test documents, and design reports.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues across development and in-service equipment.
• Support upgrades, obsolescence, and new technology adoption.
• Work closely with mechanical, systems, software, and supplier teams.

What You Bring:

• Strong electrical system design and analysis skills.
• Confident problem solver with a methodical approach.
• Experience in defence/aerospace/marine environments.
• System integration experience on ships or other large platforms.
• Hands-on testing and validation capability.
• Solid knowledge of MIL-STD, DEF STAN, EMC.
• Skilled documentation and attention to detail.
• Team player with strong communication skills.
• Experience with Zuken E3, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar tools.

Qualifications:

• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical disciplines

Security Requirements:

• UK Sole National
• BPSS Cleared
• Able to obtain SC
