Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Location: Hertfordshire

A science-led organisation within the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector is seeking a Multi-Skilled Engineer (Instrumentation & Controls) to join its Engineering and Facilities team, supporting a regulated manufacturing and laboratory environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out corrective and preventative instrumentation maintenance via CMMS
  • Respond to breakdowns and support fault finding
  • Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are completed on time
  • Identify and support improvements to maintenance plans
  • Complete all maintenance documentation in line with GxP standards
  • Support small engineering projects, installations, and commissioning
  • Maintain spares, materials, and equipment availability
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with site standards
  • Liaise with stakeholders to minimise disruption and communicate progress

Technical Experience

  • Temperature, humidity, and pressure instrument loops
  • BMS-monitored HVAC systems
  • Reactor systems, stability chambers, cold rooms, and pressure cascades
  • Instrumentation fault finding and calibration in regulated environments

Beneficial Experience

  • Purified Water systems
  • Agitator speed sensors
  • MCERT flowmeters
  • VOC gas analysers


Candidate Profile

  • Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent
  • Post-apprenticeship experience in instrumentation / controls maintenance
  • Recognised engineering qualification preferred
  • Experience working in GxP or regulated manufacturing environments
  • Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Safety-focused, proactive, and team-oriented
