Principal Fire Engineer – UK (Flexible Location)


We are seeking an experienced Principal Fire Engineer to join a growing Fire Engineering team within a multidisciplinary consultancy delivering complex, high-profile projects across the UK.


This is a senior, client-facing role ideal for a technically strong fire engineer who enjoys leading projects, influencing design, and mentoring others.


The Role

You will provide technical leadership across a diverse range of sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, residential, life sciences, and large-scale regeneration projects. Working closely with architects, engineers, and clients, you will shape fire safety strategies from concept through to delivery.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the delivery of performance-based and prescriptive fire strategies
  • Providing expert input across all project stages
  • Overseeing CFD fire and smoke modelling, evacuation modelling, and smoke control strategies
  • Acting as technical lead on complex, multidisciplinary projects and bids
  • Engaging directly with clients, design teams, and approval authorities
  • Supporting business growth and mentoring junior engineers


About You

  • Proven experience delivering fire strategies for complex buildings
  • Strong knowledge of UK regulations and standards (ADB, BS 9991, BS 9999, NFPA, EN guidance)
  • Proficient with tools such as FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder, or similar
  • Comfortable leading client discussions and technical workshops
  • Background in a consultancy and multidisciplinary environment


Qualifications

  • Degree in Fire Engineering or a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (IFE or equivalent)
