Job description

SRE Consultant / Coach

Level: Consultant - £525–£625 per day (Inside IR35)

Location: London | Hybrid (Site days TBC)

Function: Site Reliability Engineering | DevOps | Cloud Operations

Industry: Public Sector Project | Digital Transformation

About the Role

We’re working with an advisory consulting firm on a public sector project for a major UK client. They’re transforming their operations team into a modern SRE-focused model and need an experienced SRE Consultant / Coach to lead this change. The client has been building SRE capabilities for several years but still relies heavily on traditional ITSM / ITIL practices. This is an opportunity to shape strategy, influence execution, and embed an application support culture.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assess current operations and support processes (‘as-is’) and define the SRE transformation roadmap (‘to-be’).
  • Work alongside the client’s product team leads to coach and embed SRE practices.
  • Guide on cloud adoption and operational excellence across AWS, Azure, and multi-platform applications.
  • Advocate for and influence cultural change towards an outcome-focused, DevOps/SRE model.
  • Support knowledge transfer and capability building within onshore and offshore teams.

Ideal Background

  • Strong SRE experience with a coaching or consultancy focus.
  • Hands-on with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and multi-platform applications.
  • Familiarity with mainframe environments advantageous.
  • Solid DevOps skillset including CI/CD, automation, monitoring, and incident management.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and ability to influence cultural change.
  • UK-based and available for immediate start.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive day rate: £525–£625 (Inside IR35)
  • 6-month contract with potential for extension.
  • Hybrid working with on-site days in London as required.
  • Exposure to a high-profile public sector transformation project.
  • Opportunity to make a tangible impact on team culture and operational maturity.

Who Should Apply

This is ideal for experienced SRE professionals who enjoy hands-on coaching, shaping teams, and driving organisational change. You’ll thrive if you want to be part of a transformation journey rather than just plugging gaps.
