Vallum Associates is looking for a Senior Account Manager

Job description

Senior Account Manager – Large Business Energy Sales

Location: UK (Hybrid / Flexible)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Opportunity

My client is a leading UK energy organisation playing a critical role in helping British businesses and the public sector achieve Net Zero. Operating across multiple markets — including wholesale, residential, business energy solutions, and field services — the business is recognised for its scale, resilience, and ability to deliver value in a highly competitive and fast-evolving market.

With a multi-billion-pound turnover and a large UK-based workforce supported by international delivery teams, my client combines the stability of a major energy provider with the pace and commercial challenge of a modern energy business. The culture is built around ownership, openness, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on delivering excellent customer and employee experiences.

The Team

The Large Business Sales function is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of high-value electricity supply customers, typically organisations consuming 20GWh+ per year. The team focuses on flexible and structured supply contracts, long-term customer value, and the development of value-adding energy solutions and services.

The Role

As a Senior Account Manager, you will take ownership of a portfolio of complex, high-value electricity supply customers. You will be responsible for retaining and growing existing accounts while identifying and developing new commercial opportunities.

This is a senior, consultative role requiring strong commercial judgement, deep industry understanding, and the ability to build trusted relationships at multiple levels — including senior leadership and board-level stakeholders.

You will act as a subject matter expert across energy contracts, market dynamics, and regulation, working closely with internal pricing, risk, operations, and product teams to deliver commercially viable and customer-focused solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively develop and grow a portfolio of large, complex energy customers
  • Achieve revenue and value targets through structured electricity supply contracts and value-adding products
  • Use insight-led, consultative selling to link customer needs to energy solutions
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within existing and new accounts
  • Build and maintain detailed account plans based on customer intelligence
  • Lead multi-stakeholder engagement internally and externally to drive deal success
  • Act as a senior ambassador for the organisation in customer and industry interactions
  • Stay up to date with B2B energy markets, regulation, and commercial trends
  • Ensure full compliance with governance, policy, and risk frameworks

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience managing complex, high-value B2B customer portfolios
  • Strong background in the energy sector, ideally within a deal-focused or wholesale environment
  • Solid understanding of electricity markets, structured contracts, and risk management
  • Ability to articulate complex commercial and financial scenarios clearly
  • Confident engaging senior stakeholders and influencing decision-making
  • Proactive, self-directed, and commercially driven
  • Comfortable taking ownership and accountability for outcomes
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across multiple internal teams

Why Apply?

  • Join a market-leading energy organisation central to the UK’s Net Zero transition
  • Take ownership of a high-profile, high-value customer portfolio
  • Operate in a commercially sophisticated and strategically important role
  • Work within a culture that values ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement
  • Long-term career development opportunities within a large, established energy group
