Role Details:

As a Civil Engineer in the nuclear defence sector, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of critical civil and structural infrastructure for national defence operations.

You will ensure compliance with strict safety, regulatory, and security standards while contributing to resilient, high-integrity engineering solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage civil and structural design documentation, including changes and concessions.
  • Produce EIMT schedules, procedures, and supporting evidence to meet safety case requirements.
  • Prepare and review safety reports and technical justifications for design modifications.
  • Provide technical advice to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake Independent Technical Assessments (ITA) and Peer Reviews (IPR).
  • Apply civil and structural engineering principles in nuclear or high-hazard environments.
  • Review, validate, and approve calculations, technical reports, and safety submissions.


Key Requirements:

Essential

  • At least 5 years’ experience assessing reinforced concrete and steel structures under static and dynamic loading.
  • Ability to produce clear, robust technical justifications for design changes.
  • Strong civil/structural engineering knowledge applied to existing and emerging technologies.
  • Experience supporting multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Relevant engineering degree.
  • Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent experience).

Desirable

  • Experience working with reinforced concrete and steel structures in marine or comparable environments.
  • Experience within the nuclear industry or other high-hazard sectors (preferred but not essential).
  • Understanding of full lifecycle engineering processes in high-risk environments.
  • Familiarity with safety case development and hazard analysis techniques (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP).
  • Chartered Engineer status.
