Role Overview
The Client Manager is responsible for managing and developing a portfolio of clients, delivering high-quality accountancy and advisory services, and building long-term client relationships. The role contributes to business growth by ensuring excellent client service, identifying commercial opportunities, and delivering work efficiently within agreed budgets and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop strong, long-term relationships with a portfolio of clients.
- Deliver high-quality compliance and advisory services in line with professional standards and client expectations.
- Identify opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients and contribute to business development activities.
- Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Maintain a proactive approach to client service, addressing queries and issues promptly and professionally.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and senior management to support the firm’s objectives and business plans.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of internal systems, processes, and best practices.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and industry developments.
- Use accounting and reporting software effectively to analyse financial information and support client decision-making.
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with clients and internal stakeholders.
Key Duties
- Manage a portfolio of clients, acting as a primary point of contact and ensuring regular communication.
- Prepare, review, and finalise statutory accounts and supporting documentation in accordance with agreed deadlines and budgets.
- Prepare business and personal tax computations for review.
- Prepare, review, or oversee the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
- Maintain or oversee the maintenance of clients’ accounting records and management information.
- Prepare periodic management accounts and performance reports (monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly) where required.
- Provide clients with practical advice to improve profitability, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
- Identify and escalate any issues that may impact delivery timescales or budgets.
- Resolve client queries prior to final review and client meetings.
- Attend meetings with clients, both remotely and at client premises, as required.
- Support and contribute to ad-hoc projects and assignments.
- Carry out other reasonable duties as required in line with the needs of the business.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in a client-facing role within accountancy or professional services.
- Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation, taxation, and compliance requirements.
- Commercially aware, with the ability to identify opportunities to add value to clients.
- Confident using accounting and reporting software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
