Principal Engineer
SPG Resourcing is looking for a Principal Engineer
Job description
Role: Principal Engineer
Location: Hybrid (Tunbridge Wells, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Bristol and Bournemouth)
Salary: £100,000+
We have an exciting opportunity for two Principal Engineers to join a large UK-based health and insurance organisation. This is a fantastic chance to work in a product-led operating model, where teams are aligned to value streams and structured to take initiatives from idea to delivery with minimal hand-offs. The organisation is focused on building a Single Digital Platform, centred around Salesforce, and supported by a significant .NET estate and Azure services. The mission is to re-platform the business to improve efficiency, flexibility, and ultimately deliver better health outcomes for millions of members.
Responsibilities
- Lead a product engineering team, taking ownership of delivery outcomes aligned with the transformation roadmap.
- Contribute to the Engineering Leadership team, helping to set and deliver the engineering strategy.
- Be hands-on with code, including reviewing pull requests and ensuring engineering best practices are followed by both internal and third-party engineers.
- Inspire excellence, improving employee engagement, performance, and wellbeing.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and business experts to ensure delivery quality and expectations are met.
- Assess new technology solutions and ensure non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, resilience, GRC compliance) are met.
- Encourage collaboration and product ownership across developers and testers.
- Support a shift-left approach to secure, quality, and tested code.
- Lead in a multi-vendor environment, providing guidance and direction to delivery teams.
- Improve core DORA metrics and optimise flow across systems and processes.
Requirements
- Proven experience building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
- Expertise in Salesforce and its ecosystem, including building scalable business solutions and integrating with multiple applications.
- Experience with Azure, .NET, ADO pipelines, and React web applications is highly desirable.
- Ability to design and deliver complex solutions on time and budget, accountable for outcomes rather than just output.
- Experience managing high-volume, critical application estates, ideally in financial or regulated sectors.
- Strong stakeholder management skills across multiple business domains.
- Good understanding of current and emerging technologies and their business potential.
- Ability to translate business strategy into technical solutions and requirements into technical design.
- Experience working in Agile environments with a focus on optimising flow across the SDLC.
- Prior experience in product-centric organisations is preferred.
What We Offer
