⚡Grid Planning Engineer


Hybrid working (1–2 days per week in the office)

37.5 hours per week


My client is at the forefront of the UK’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure transition, supporting the shift to more sustainable travel by making EV charging more accessible across a national portfolio of high-traffic locations.

As part of an exciting new phase of growth, the business is expanding its capabilities as a Charge Point Operator (CPO), with significant investment in EV charging infrastructure to support long-term sustainability goals.


The Role

As Grid Planning Engineer, you will play a critical role in the planning, design, and delivery of grid connections across a large, multi-site estate. You will support both existing operations and future growth projects, including EV charging, renewable energy integration, and wider site expansion initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Grid Connection Planning

  • Assess grid capacity and develop connection strategies across multiple sites
  • Liaise with DNOs, IDNOs, and National Grid to secure and manage connections


Infrastructure Design & Development

  • Design electrical infrastructure layouts for new and existing locations
  • Support the rollout of EV charging, renewable energy, and backup power systems


Project Delivery

  • Provide technical input into feasibility studies, planning applications, and construction projects
  • Oversee contractors and suppliers to ensure compliance with technical and safety standards


Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure all grid planning activities meet regulatory, environmental, and H&S requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK energy regulations, Ofgem guidance, and DNO processes


Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with internal teams including property, operations, and sustainability
  • Act as the technical point of contact for external stakeholders such as DNOs, consultants, and public bodies


About You

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in grid planning, power systems, or energy infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of UK electricity networks and grid connection processes
  • Experience within a DNO or IDNO environment is highly desirable
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Confident communicator, able to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
