Instrumentation & Controls Engineer
A pharmaceutical client of ours in Hertfordshire are seeking a skilled and proactive Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join their dynamic engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a high-tech, safety-conscious environment where quality and innovation are key.
What you’ll be doing:
- Carrying out corrective and preventative instrumentation maintenance, ensuring schedules are met and equipment remains in peak condition.
- Responding swiftly to emergency breakdowns to minimise downtime.
- Reviewing and improving maintenance plans in collaboration with the Engineering Lead to ensure relevance, compliance, and technical accuracy.
- Maintaining GxP-compliant documentation and generating accurate reports.
- Leading small projects, from design and installation to commissioning of minor systems.
- Identifying cost-effective and innovative working methods without compromising safety or quality.
- Monitoring and maintaining stock of parts and equipment.
- Ensuring all work is carried out to the highest safety standards and proactively addressing hazards.
- Liaising with stakeholders to minimise disruption and keep them informed of progress.
- Performing precise calibration of instruments and equipment to meet industry and regulatory standards.
What we’re looking for:
- Formal engineering apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Experience as an Instrumentation/Controls Multi-Skilled Technician.
- City & Guilds (or equivalent) qualification in a core engineering discipline; a secondary engineering discipline is desirable.
- Strong understanding of GxP principles and GMP manufacturing equipment.
- Knowledge of temperature, humidity and pressure loops, reactor systems, stability chambers, cold rooms, BMS, HVAC, and purified water systems.
- Troubleshooting expertise, with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills, with proficiency in Microsoft 365.
- A safety-first mindset, with a helpful, responsive, and customer-focused approach.
Desirable skills:
- Secondary control discipline qualification or equivalent experience in control systems.
- Knowledge of high-integrity DCS (Delta V), PLC programming, agitator speed sensors, MCERT flowmeters, and VOC gas analysers.
