This is a rare and exciting opportunity to become Technical Manager at an impressive International Convention Centre.

The venue will feature a wide range of event spaces equipped with large-format LED screens and cutting-edge event technology, hosting everything from gala dinners and corporate conferences to exhibitions and sporting events.

As Technical Manager, you will lead the technical planning and on-site delivery of events, ensuring seamless execution while acting as the key interface between technical and commercial requirements. A major part of your success will come from building strong, trusted relationships with the venue’s in-house events team and external clients.

This role would suit an experienced AV Technical or Project Manager, or a senior AV technician ready to step into a leadership role within a flagship venue.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Operations

  • Oversee the planning, installation (“get-ins”), operation, and de-rigging (“get-outs”) of AV, lighting, sound, rigging, and LED systems
  • Support delivery across conferences, exhibitions, live performances, gala dinners, and sporting events

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Assist with maintaining all in-house technical equipment to a high standard
  • Manage on-site technical inventory
  • Coordinate repairs, PAT testing, servicing, and upgrades

Project & Financial Management

  • Translate creative briefs into robust technical solutions
  • Produce detailed technical specifications and CAD drawings

Client & Stakeholder Liaison

  • Act as the primary technical contact for clients, promoters, and visiting production teams
  • Ensure technical requirements are delivered within venue capabilities

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, schedule, and mentor in-house technicians, casual crew, and freelancers
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment

Health & Safety

  • Enforce strict health and safety standards
  • Produce and manage RAMS
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including CDM regulations

Innovation & Development

  • Keep up to date with emerging AV and event technologies
  • Support development of new services and efficient operational processes

You’ll have strong end-to-end experience in live event technical production and thrive in a fast-paced, high-profile venue environment.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Extensive background as a live event AV technician, particularly with LED and video systems
  • Experience managing technical production for live events
  • Strong knowledge of event power, cable management, and event-based health & safety
  • Understanding of conferences, congresses, and awards shows
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve under pressure
  • Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Analog Way systems, particularly Aquilon
  • Basic CAD skills (Vectorworks or similar)
  • Knowledge of virtual events and streaming platforms
  • Understanding of weight loads, speaker dispersion, sightlines, power draw, and floor load restrictions

Personal Attributes

  • Calm, confident, and professional under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong attention to detail and numeracy
  • A-Levels minimum; a relevant degree preferred

Events predominantly take place on weekdays, however some evening and weekend work is required. This role offers flexibility but requires an understanding that it is not a 9–5 position.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary with uncapped commission
  • Company bonus scheme
  • Opportunity to work in a flagship, newly opened venue
  • Exposure to large-scale, high-profile events
  • Career progression within a forward-thinking technical production environment
