Structural Engineer (Temporary Assignment)
Location: Westminster, London
Contract Type: This is a temporary assignment, not permanent
Working Pattern: Hybrid (with occasional site inspections)
Pay Rate: PAYE: £216.43 per day or Umbrella: £297.44 per day
Seven Resourcing is recruiting an experienced Structural Engineer to support a local authority Building Control and Planning function within Westminster. This is a key interim role focused on ensuring structural safety, regulatory compliance, and high professional standards across a wide range of developments.
The Role
You will work closely with senior members of the Building Control and Dangerous Structures teams, providing expert structural engineering input on planning applications, building regulations submissions, and statutory safety matters. The role requires strong technical judgement, the ability to work independently, and confidence managing a varied and fast-paced workload.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess structural designs submitted as part of planning and building regulation applications
- Provide timely responses to basement development consultations issued by Planning
- Carry out occasional site inspections where required
- Prepare technical advice and written reports relating to the Dangerous Structures function
- Act as a core member of the Dangerous Structures team, supporting statutory actions
- Manage caseloads effectively to meet service-level agreements and response time targets
- Maintain accurate records and tracking of assessments and outcomes
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Chartered Structural Engineer – Member of IStructE or an equivalent recognised professional body
- Significant post-qualification experience in structural engineering
- Strong practical and operational knowledge of structural assessment and design review
- Proven ability to assess complex structural information accurately and efficiently
- Excellent time management, organisational, and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work proactively and independently within a public sector environment
