Mechanical Design Engineer - Combustor

Enterprise Recruitment Ltd is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer - Combustor

Job description

You will join Europe’s fastest-scaling engineering startups, based in Cambridge, at a pivotal point in their growth. The company is developing bleeding-edge turbojet technology that will directly impact the aerospace and defence industry, and is now expanding its turbomachinery team.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a transformational role in the mechanical design and development of a micro-Turbojet Engine, with a primary focus on the combustor. Working as part of a lean, highly capable team alongside the Turbomachinery Design Lead, Aerothermal Engineer and Stress Engineer, you’ll be trusted with real technical ownership from day one.

The role has a strong emphasis on sheet metal design, including laser-cut profiles, forming and fabrication, and close collaboration with specialist advisors and manufacturing partners. You will produce high-quality engineering drawings with GD&T, support the design of associated static components, and help turn concepts into manufactured hardware at pace.

From an analysis and development perspective, you’ll apply stress FEA to combustor components and, where appropriate, contribute to CFD and flow analysis of the combustion system. You’ll also be actively involved in combustor subsystem testing and full engine performance testing, gaining hands-on exposure to real hardware in a fast-moving development environment.

The environment is technically demanding, collaborative and execution-focused - ideal for an engineer who wants to see their work fly, not sit in review cycles.

We’re looking for engineers who have:

A strong foundation in mechanical design, with a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree

Confidence working with CAD (Siemens NX preferred, other CAD tools considered)

Experience producing engineering drawings and applying GD&T

Experience or strong interest in sheet metal design, laser cutting, forming and fabrication

Experience or interest in stress FEA (ANSYS preferred; CFD exposure is a plus)

An interest or background in combustion systems, gas turbines, or high-temperature components
