JOB TITLE: Trademark Paralegal

GROUP: Branding

REPORTING TO: Partner and Head of Branding

TERM: Permanent

HOURS: Full-time, 9:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday with one hour for lunch.

A flexible approach to working hours is a must, overtime may be required at busy times.


We currently operate a hybrid working policy. Our hybrid working policy is discretionary and may be subject to change.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced Trademark Paralegal to join our renowned Trademarks team at Sheridans.


RESPONSIBILITIES

To provide support to include:

  • To assist in the management of the IP portfolio of Sheridans’ clients, including trade marks, copyright, designs and domain names
  • To maintain and update Sheridans’ central database of trademark registrations/pending applications and registered designs (and to supervise trade mark administrator/s regarding the same)
  • To assist in adherence to all national and foreign trademark deadlines
  • Reviewing, preparing, drafting and sending out search reports and watch notice reports to the clients
  • Drafting trade mark applications in the UK, EU (assisting Sheridans’ Berlin office) and WIPO
  • Drafting design applications in the UK, EU (assisting Sheridans’ Berlin office) and WIPO
  • Preparing and filing trademark oppositions and cancellation actions UK, and EU (assisting Sheridans’ Berlin office)
  • Preparing draft responses to registry objection
  • Liaising with overseas agents and requesting frequent status updates
  • Amending documents, including template reporting documents
  • Supervising junior paralegals and supporting Trademark Administrators in:

Processing and docketing all incoming registry post/correspondence

Preparing and filing trade mark applications and renewals

Preparing and filing design applications

Preparing cost estimates

Reporting of filing receipts, advertisements, registration and renewal certificates

Assisting with trademark billing and co-ordination

Producing client care letters and following up on due diligence for new clients


The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the Firm and the overall business needs.


SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:


Skills & experience

  • Experience of a busy trademark department, likely to have been gained in private trademark practice/law firm (preferable) and/or in-house in an IP environment;
  • Experience of WebTMS/IPPO is preferred;
  • Experience of AI solutions in trademark filing and prosecution matters
  • Ability to be pragmatic, meet deadlines and work closely with all members of the team;
  • Ability to work directly with clients;
  • A methodical approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience liaising with senior internal stakeholders;
  • Enthusiasm, resilience, and a professional approach, with an excellent customer service ethic;
  • Self-starting approach, taking ownership of matters, tasks and projects and the ability to work under own initiative and motivation;
  • Comfortable sharing knowledge with other team members, upskilling and supporting other and more junior team members when necessary
  • Commitment to being a collaborative team player and fostering an attitude that promotes comradery, creativity and innovation;
  • Ability to liaise with, persuade and influence colleagues and clients at all levels;
  • Ability to remain organised, prioritise and multi-task particularly when managing a large workload under pressure and to tight deadlines;
  • Ability to work confidentially, remaining discreet at all times and flexibility towards working out of regular hours at busy times


Qualifications

  • Accomplished academic background – i.e. Strong GCSE and A-Level results
  • Trademark CITMA qualification (Queen Mary Course or LPC – ideally) and Nottingham Course (desired but non-essential);
