Barclay Simpson is looking for a Compliance Manager

Job description

FCA Compliance Manager

Consumer Credit Business

Temporary Contract (12 months)

Hybrid (London)

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced FCA Compliance Manager to join a growing consumer credit business on a 12-month temporary contract, covering maternity leave within the compliance function.

There will be a structured handover period with the existing role holder, enabling you to quickly get up to speed and take ownership of both day-to-day compliance activity and upcoming regulatory initiatives.

You will report to the Head of Risk & Compliance (SMF16) and work closely with a team of risk, compliance and financial crime managers and analysts. The role does not carry direct line management responsibility, however you will collaborate extensively with stakeholders across the business, many of whom are new to regulated financial services.

This is a developing compliance function within a fast-growing and evolving business, requiring someone with strong FCA regulatory expertise who enjoys building frameworks, improving ways of working, and leaving things better than they found them.

A consumer credit background is strongly preferred. Experience across broader financial services will also be considered.

Working Arrangements

This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of attending the London office at least one day per week. Occasional travel to other UK offices may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on, deliver and continuously strengthen the firm’s risk and compliance strategy and framework.
  • Lead and report on risk and compliance monitoring and advisory programmes, including delivery of monitoring reviews.
  • Oversee annual Fit & Proper assessments under the FCA’s SM&CR regime.
  • Produce timely and accurate risk and compliance MI to support senior committees and the Board.
  • Ensure the governance framework evolves alongside the business, with appropriate, current policies, procedures and internal reporting.
  • Manage FCA reporting and regulatory communications, including:
  • Regulatory reporting via RegData
  • Supporting submissions via FCA Connect
  • Maintain oversight of horizon scanning and regulatory change, ensuring the compliance plan remains forward-looking.
  • Design and deliver risk and compliance training, and report on mandatory training completion.
  • Act as a key point of contact for the business on risk and compliance matters, deputising for the Head of Risk & Compliance where appropriate.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with other second line and oversight functions.
  • Support team members through review, feedback and coaching, acting as a sounding board where needed.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as agreed with the Head of Risk & Compliance.

Skills & Experience Required

  • 5+ years’ experience within a second line FCA-regulated compliance function.
  • Strong working knowledge of key FCA handbooks, including:
  • CONC, DISP, PROD, PRIN, COCON and SYSC
  • A strong understanding of FCA expectations relating to:
  • Consumer Duty
  • Vulnerable customers
  • Insurance Distribution (desirable)
  • Demonstrable experience delivering advisory, monitoring and training activities, and managing senior stakeholder updates.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance.
  • Strong change and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a hybrid working environment.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with confidence to make recommendations and implement improvements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams.
  • A genuine interest in continuous improvement and personal development within a growing compliance function.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with regulatory risk assessments and risk registers.
  • Experience within a consumer credit, fintech or lending-focused financial services environment.
  • Previous line management or mentoring experience.
