EHV Cable Design Manager - Transmission & Distribution

UK - Hybrid

£90K + extras

Role Purpose

To lead and manage the design function, ensuring the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of complex cable engineering designs. The role is accountable for technical excellence, resource management, and commercial performance across design activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, develop and manage the design team, providing technical direction and people leadership.
• Oversee the delivery of complex transmission and distribution cable designs.
• Assign and manage design resources to projects, ensuring high utilisation and efficient delivery.
• Support project planning, budgeting, forecasting and resource estimation.
• Monitor productivity, costs and performance against agreed targets and budgets.
• Ensure all designs meet technical, safety, quality and regulatory requirements.
• Provide expert input into highly complex or innovative engineering solutions.
• Identify and mitigate technical, delivery and resourcing risks.
• Drive continuous improvement and efficiency in design processes.
• Maintain clear communication with project, engineering and senior management stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality management systems.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Engineering and Chartered Engineer status.
• 10+ years’ experience in senior cable engineering within transmission and distribution.
• Proven leadership of engineering teams delivering complex design projects.
• Strong experience in budgeting, scheduling and resource planning.
• Proficient in cable design and analysis software and technical reporting.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
