Design Verification Engineer

SoCode Recruitment is looking for a Design Verification Engineer

Job description

Socode are supporting a high-tech engineering business looking to hire a Mechanical Design Verification Engineer to strengthen their in-house verification capability.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on proving mechanical designs actually work. You’ll be close to hardware from day one: building fixtures, running tests, breaking parts, analysing failures, and feeding clear evidence back into design.

The environment is collaborative and practical. Mechanical design, electronics, systems, and manufacturing work closely together, and this role sits right across that interface. You’ll be on site, in the lab and workshop, validating designs throughout the development lifecycle.

What you’ll be working on

  • Planning and running mechanical verification against real product requirements
  • Reviewing designs, drawings, tolerances, materials, and assemblies to identify risk
  • Turning requirements into practical test strategies and test plans
  • Executing mechanical testing including shock, vibration, drop, thermal, ingress protection, and durability
  • Running structural, fatigue, wear, and lifecycle testing
  • Designing and building mechanical test fixtures, jigs, and rigs
  • Assembling prototypes and preparing test samples
  • Analysing failures, identifying root cause, and providing clear, data-led feedback to design
  • Writing concise verification reports with clear pass/fail outcomes
  • Supporting rapid design changes with fast test–feedback loops
  • Working with external test houses where specialist or accredited testing is required
  • Improving verification methods, equipment, and processes as products evolve

What they’re looking for

  • Hands-on experience in mechanical verification or validation
  • Strong grounding in mechanical design fundamentals, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience running mechanical tests in practice, not just defining them
  • Comfortable using measurement tools such as callipers, micrometers, gauges, and torque tools
  • Happy working in a lab or workshop environment building and modifying test setups
  • Able to analyse failures and challenge designs using evidence
  • Capable of writing clear, usable test plans and reports
  • Mechanical engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience
