GEDON™ | Commercial & Executive Search for the Built Environment is looking for a Commercial Manager

Job description

About Our Client

We are partnered with a well-established and growing construction and engineering contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, technically complex projects across London and the wider UK. The business is known for its collaborative approach, commercial integrity and ability to consistently secure repeat work from leading clients.

Operating across commercial fit-out, refurbishment and specialist engineering works, the contractor delivers projects within live environments, often under fast-track programmes and demanding stakeholder conditions. Continued growth has created the need to strengthen the senior commercial team with an experienced Commercial Manager.

The Opportunity

The business is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to take full commercial responsibility for two to three concurrent live projects. This is a senior, hands-on role offering genuine autonomy and ownership from early procurement strategy through to final account.

You will act as the commercial lead on your projects, working closely with operational, design and senior leadership teams, while also managing and developing one to two Assistant Quantity Surveyors.

The Projects

Projects are delivered across London and the wider UK and typically include:

  • High-value commercial office fit-outs (Cat A and Cat B)
  • Complex mechanical and electrical installation packages
  • Fast-track refurbishment and retrofit schemes
  • Technically challenging projects delivered within live environments
  • Medium to large-value projects involving multiple stakeholders and tight programmes

You will have the opportunity to take ownership of commercially significant schemes, influencing outcomes throughout the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide full commercial leadership across multiple projects from pre-contract through to final account.
  • Manage cost planning, budgets, forecasting, cash flow, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Prepare, negotiate and administer contracts and subcontract packages.
  • Lead procurement strategies, ensuring value for money and strong supply chain relationships.
  • Manage change control, variations and commercial correspondence with clients and consultants.
  • Produce accurate and timely commercial reports for senior management.
  • Provide commercial advice and strategic input to project delivery teams.
  • Line manage and develop Assistant Quantity Surveyors, supporting progression and performance.
  • Promote best-practice commercial processes and continuous improvement across the business.

Required Experience & Background

  • Proven experience operating at Commercial Manager level within construction, fit-out, MEP or a related sector.
  • Strong track record managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • In-depth understanding of construction contracts, commercial management and procurement.
  • Experience managing and developing junior commercial team members.
  • Strong commercial acumen, problem-solving capability and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
  • Professional membership or working toward RICS, CIOB or equivalent.

What’s On Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package aligned with experience.
  • Exposure to high-profile, technically challenging projects.
  • Real autonomy and ownership over commercially significant schemes.
  • Supportive senior leadership with clear communication and decision-making lines.
  • Genuine commitment to developing and investing in people.
  • Clear progression opportunities as the business continues to grow.
