Quantity Surveyor

engstaff-in is looking for a Quantity Surveyor

Job description

Assistant Commercial Manager / Quantity Surveyor (NEC)

South Wales | Hybrid (2 days office-based)

We’re looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC contract experience to join our commercial team, supporting a wide portfolio of highways and infrastructure projects across South Wales.

This role is QS and contract-focused, not a procurement role. You’ll be office-based, working closely with project teams to provide commercial oversight, contractual guidance, and NEC compliance throughout the full project lifecycle.

The Role

You’ll act as a key commercial and contractual advisor, supporting projects from contract award through to final account. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing Bills of Quantities, contractual returns, CVRs and cashflows
  • Providing NEC contractual advice and guidance to project teams
  • Administering contracts in line with NEC3 (moving fully to NEC4)
  • Managing compensation events, change control and claims
  • Supporting dispute resolution and ensuring contractual compliance
  • Maintaining accurate contemporary records to support assessments and decisions

This is a collaborative role, working closely with delivery teams to ensure projects are commercially sound, compliant, and well managed from start to finish.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager
  • Hands-on NEC3 / NEC4 contract administration experience (essential)
  • Exposure to the full NEC lifecycle — early warnings, compensation events, programme impact, and close-out
  • Strong understanding of contractual risk, compliance and change control
  • Ability to clearly advise and support non-commercial project teams

Experience in highways or infrastructure environments is advantageous, but strong NEC experience is the key requirement.

What’s On Offer

  • Permanent, full-time role (37 hours per week)
  • Hybrid working (typically 2 days per week in the office)
  • Competitive salary and excellent local government pension
  • Long-term, stable workload with clear development opportunities
  • The chance to work on projects that make a real impact across South Wales
