We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function on a high-profile Ministry of Defence (MoD) facilities management contract. This is a key leadership role focused on managing client relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the successful commercial delivery of a varied and challenging portfolio of sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
- Act as the primary commercial point of contact, ensuring client expectations are met and exceeded.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for contract growth, cost avoidance, and new business development.
Financial Management
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities across Management Units (MU).
- Monitor MU costs, manage financial risks, and ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Produce regular financial performance reports, including P&L analysis and variance reporting.
Contract Negotiation & Compliance
- Negotiate contract terms with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to secure favourable outcomes.
- Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals for new business.
- Routinely audit TwC tasks and provide constructive feedback.
- Ensure all commercial activities comply with contractual obligations, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
Project Oversight
- Oversee the commercial delivery of projects, ensuring alignment with programme timelines and quality expectations.
- Conduct market research to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the resolution of commercial issues and disputes promptly and professionally.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop a team of Assistant Commercial Managers and Commercial Assistants.
- Provide strategic guidance, coaching, and performance management.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Quantity Surveying, Facilities Management, or related discipline.
- Due to the nature of the contract, Security Clearance (SC) or the ability to obtain it is required.
- 3–5 years’ experience in a commercial management role, ideally within FM or the defence sector.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven experience in budget management, financial reporting, and commercial risk control.
- Proficiency in project management tools and financial systems.
