Job description
Commercial Manager – Construction & Infrastructure
(Pathway to Head of Commercial Project Management)
We’re looking for a Commercial Manager with strong Quantity Surveying and contract negotiation expertise to help deliver a nationwide rollout of next-generation clean energy hubs across the UK. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping, controlling, and growing the commercial function on complex infrastructure projects — leaving a real legacy in sustainable transport.

- Take commercial ownership of c. £10m infrastructure projects from feasibility to final account
- Work across a diverse portfolio of EV, HVO, bio-CNG and hydrogen energy assets
- Shape commercial strategy, procurement approaches, and contract frameworks
- Genuine opportunity to grow a team and define how the commercial function operates
What You’ll Be Doing
- Acting as Commercial Manager / Quantity Surveyor across multiple live infrastructure projects
- Managing projects under NEC and JCT contracts, including drafting, negotiation, administration and change control
- Preparing, reviewing and negotiating payment applications, valuations, and payment schedules
- Leading cost planning, forecasting, and cost reporting throughout the project lifecycle
- Managing variations, compensation events, and final accounts with contractors and consultants
- Supporting procurement strategy, tender evaluations, and contract awards
- Undertaking regular site visits to monitor progress, commercial risk, and cost performance
- Working closely with project managers, engineering, legal, and finance teams
- Identifying opportunities to improve commercial processes, controls, and governance
- Playing a key role in building and mentoring a growing commercial team, with succession into a senior leadership role
What You’ll Need
- Proven experience operating as a Commercial Manager or Quantity Surveyor on construction or infrastructure projects
- Track record on projects of £5m–£10m+ in value
- Strong working knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract
- Experience managing applications for payment, valuations, and cost reporting
- Commercially astute with strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Background in civils, infrastructure, utilities, fuel/energy assets, or related sectors
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to attend sites nationwide
What Sets You Apart
- Strategic commercial thinker with a hands-on delivery mindset
- Confident managing contractors and challenging costs constructively
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and financial accuracy
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving project environment
- Ambition to grow, lead, and shape a high-performing commercial team
The Bigger Picture
This isn’t just a Commercial Manager role. It’s a chance to own and grow the commercial function, influence how major clean energy infrastructure is delivered, and progress into a Head of Commercial Project Management position as the portfolio scales.
If you want responsibility, progression, and purpose — this is the role.
Apply now and help build the infrastructure of a cleaner tomorrow.
