Job description
Senior Hardware Engineer
If you enjoy solving complex engineering problems in safety-critical environments and want to see your designs move from concept through to real-world deployment, this could be YOUR next step.
This well-established, technology-driven organisation in the Cambridge area is investing heavily in its next generation of products and is looking to bring in an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer to strengthen a highly capable Baseband Hardware team.
You will be joining a collaborative, technically ambitious environment where engineers are trusted with ownership, encouraged to influence design decisions, and supported to develop both technically and professionally.
Why this role?
- Work on technically demanding, safety-critical electronic platforms
- Take real ownership of features and subsystems within major product developments
- Be part of a stable, growing engineering group with long-term product roadmaps
- Influence design decisions from early architecture through to verification
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across hardware, systems and verification
What you will be doing:
- Owning delivery of defined product features or significant sections of larger platforms
- Designing intrinsic safety circuitry for ATEX-certified products, including thermal management and current-limiting strategies
- Developing microprocessor-based systems with integrated sensors
- Creating efficient, low-power power-supply architectures for demanding operating environments
- Designing audio amplifier solutions up to 10W
- Leading design verification, EMC validation and system-level testing
- Producing high-quality technical documentation to support release and certification
- Working closely with cross-functional engineering teams
What we need from you:
- A degree in an engineering discipline (or equivalent industry experience)
- Proven experience developing hardware for ATEX-certified or intrinsically safe environments
- Strong understanding of intrinsic-safety principles and regulatory compliance pathways
- Experience with microprocessor systems, low-power architectures and power-saving strategies
- Confidence across serial interfaces such as I²S, I²C, UART and USB (USB 3.0 particularly welcome)
- The ability to communicate complex designs clearly through written technical documentation
- A proactive, collaborative mindset and comfort working in evolving development programmes
An added bonus…….
- EMC and ESD design experience at component and system level
- Exposure to complex mixed-signal architectures
- Audio system design experience
- Familiarity with embedded Linux environments, board bring-up or driver integration
What can you expect in return:
- Salary in the range of £65,000 - £85,000, dependent on experience
- Private health and dental care
- Subsidised onsite restaurant
- Enhanced pension contribution
- Flexible working hours
