Contract Opportunity


I am supporting a defence-focused organisation seeking an experienced Naval Architect to join their technical team on a contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex naval platforms and provide specialist technical advice within a highly regulated environment.


Location - Bristol (on-site presence required)

⏳ Duration - 6 months

Security Clearance – Current SC clearance required (Sole UK national only)

Engagement Details - Inside IR35

Day Rate - £DOE


Role Overview


The successful candidate will provide Naval Architecture expertise and guidance to defence customers, supporting the assessment and performance of surface ships and submarines.


Key technical focus areas include:


  • Maneuvering and control
  • Dynamic and quasi-static stability
  • Seakeeping
  • Resistance and propulsion


The role will involve the use of industry-standard and bespoke numerical simulation tools, alongside data analysis and technical reporting.


You will also be expected to present findings internally and externally, including customer meetings and conferences, and support wider business activities such as bid input, planning, and task estimation.


Key Skills & Experience


  • Strong background in Naval Architecture
  • Experience assessing surface ships and/or submarines
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and numerical methods
  • Programming experience (e.g. MATLAB, Python, or similar)
  • Ability to develop innovative technical solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Confident presenting complex technical information
  • Collaborative, organised and detail-oriented

  • Work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to define requirements and deliver agreed scopes of work
  • Provide innovative and technically robust solutions aligned with customer needs
  • Conduct work safely, identifying hazards and escalating concerns where appropriate
  • Contribute to a collaborative working culture across teams
  • Support business planning and bidding activities when required
