Job description
We are seeking a skilled Instrument Design Engineer with to support the design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for Oil & Gas facilities. The role involves preparing detailed engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions across upstream, midstream, or downstream projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed instrumentation and control system designs for Oil & Gas projects.
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables including:
- Instrument datasheets
- Instrument index and I/O lists
- Hook-up drawings
- Loop diagrams
- Wiring diagrams
- Cable schedules and routing
- Control panel and junction box layouts
- Cause & effect charts
- P&IDs markups and reviews
- Select and specify field instruments such as transmitters, analyzers, control valves, and safety devices.
- Perform sizing and selection of control valves, flow elements, and safety instrumentation.
- Support development of control philosophies and functional design specifications.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable standards and codes (IEC, ISA, API, ATEX, NEC, etc.).
- Coordinate with process, electrical, mechanical, and piping disciplines.
- Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and design review meetings.
- Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Review vendor documents and drawings for compliance with project requirements.
- Assist with FAT, SAT, and site commissioning activities.
- Support troubleshooting and field modifications when required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 8 - 12 years of experience in instrumentation design within the Oil & Gas or process industry or gas distributor
- Strong knowledge of field instrumentation and control systems.
- Experience with hazardous area classification and protection methods.
- Familiarity with DCS, PLC, SCADA, and SIS systems.
- Experience in brownfield and/or greenfield projects.
- Proficiency in engineering design standards and best practices.
Technical Skills
- Experience with engineering tools such as:
- AutoCAD / MicroStation / SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) / AVEVA / E3D (as applicable)
- Control valve sizing software knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge of communication protocols (HART, Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, Ethernet/IP).
- Understanding of SIL assessment and functional safety concepts is a plus.

- Ability to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural project teams.

- Able to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines.
