Job description

We are seeking a skilled Instrument Design Engineer with to support the design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for Oil & Gas facilities. The role involves preparing detailed engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions across upstream, midstream, or downstream projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed instrumentation and control system designs for Oil & Gas projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables including:
  • Instrument datasheets
  • Instrument index and I/O lists
  • Hook-up drawings
  • Loop diagrams
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Cable schedules and routing
  • Control panel and junction box layouts
  • Cause & effect charts
  • P&IDs markups and reviews
  • Select and specify field instruments such as transmitters, analyzers, control valves, and safety devices.
  • Perform sizing and selection of control valves, flow elements, and safety instrumentation.
  • Support development of control philosophies and functional design specifications.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards and codes (IEC, ISA, API, ATEX, NEC, etc.).
  • Coordinate with process, electrical, mechanical, and piping disciplines.
  • Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and design review meetings.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Review vendor documents and drawings for compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist with FAT, SAT, and site commissioning activities.
  • Support troubleshooting and field modifications when required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 8 - 12 years of experience in instrumentation design within the Oil & Gas or process industry or gas distributor
  • Strong knowledge of field instrumentation and control systems.
  • Experience with hazardous area classification and protection methods.
  • Familiarity with DCS, PLC, SCADA, and SIS systems.
  • Experience in brownfield and/or greenfield projects.
  • Proficiency in engineering design standards and best practices.
  • Technical Skills

    • Experience with engineering tools such as:
    • AutoCAD / MicroStation / SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) / AVEVA / E3D (as applicable)
    • Control valve sizing software knowledge preferred.
    • Knowledge of communication protocols (HART, Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, Ethernet/IP).
    • Understanding of SIL assessment and functional safety concepts is a plus.
