Business Relationship Manager
Southside District is looking for a Business Relationship Manager
Job description
Southside District, Birmingham City Centre | £35,000 | Full-time (incl. Evenings & weekends) | Contract until 31 March 2029
Are you ready to become the face of one of Birmingham’s most vibrant, culturally rich and fast‑paced Districts?
Southside District is entering an exciting new chapter — and we’re looking for someone who thrives on building meaningful relationships, loves being out and about meeting people, and has the grit, energy and personality to proudly represent our diverse community.
This is not a desk bound role. It’s lively. It’s hands on. It’s frontline.
If you’re the kind of person who can solve a problem on the street at 9am, lead a hyper‑local business project at noon, and capture the perfect Instagram story by 3pm - read on.
Why Southside District?
Southside is home to Birmingham’s world‑famous Chinese Quarter, the LGBTQ+ Village, leading theatres, bustling hospitality spots and some of the city centre’s most dynamic independents. You’ll be at the heart of it all - telling their stories, celebrating their successes, and ensuring their voices are heard.
We’re also a partner with Birmingham Colmore, giving you a unique platform to shape how two of the city centre’s thriving districts work together.
The Role: be the district’s go‑to connector
As our Business Relationship Manager, you’ll:
Build Strong, Trusting Relationships
- Engage daily with a huge mix of businesses, from late-night venues and hotels to independent retailers, restaurants and theatres.
- Become a trusted first point of contact for the community, including businesses with strong links to the Chinese business community and the LGBTQ+ sector.
- Represent their needs to partners such as Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Police and Birmingham Colmore.
Bring the District to life online
- Own and run our social media channels with flair.
- Create exciting, community-focused content that celebrates Southside’s unique character.
- Manage WhatsApp groups, share updates, and keep communication flowing with our businesses.
Lead local projects & events
- Deliver local projects and support bigger city-wide initiatives with the Birmingham Colmore team.
- Attend, support and sometimes lead events — including evenings and weekends — showcasing Southside’s vibrancy.
Be our eyes and ears on the ground
- Work closely with the Southside Wardens and District Cleaner to spot issues and get them sorted quickly.
- Keep our CRM and business database up-to-date and accurate.
What you’ll bring
- Experience in stakeholder or business relationship management.
- Confidence engaging with a diverse business community.
- Strong social media skills and digital communication know‑how.
- A calm, professional problem-solving approach when things get challenging.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and juggle multiple priorities.
- A love for fast-paced environments where no two days are the same.
Bonus points for:
- Experience in a BID or place management role.
- Knowledge of Birmingham’s business and cultural landscape.
- Experience with events, campaigns or hyperlocal marketing.
- Understanding of the needs of the Chinese and LGBTQ+ business communities.
