Job description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to support a client on upcoming high-voltage substation works. The successful candidate will play a key role in the safe and successful delivery of a complex 400kV substation project, from early design and procurement through to construction, commissioning, and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the end-to-end delivery of a 400kV substation project, ensuring alignment with programme, budget, safety, and quality objectives
- Act as the primary point of contact between the client, contractors, designers, and other key stakeholders
- Manage and administer construction contracts, with a strong focus on NEC3 / NEC4 forms, including change control, early warnings, compensation events, and risk management
- Drive project planning, scheduling, and progress reporting, identifying and mitigating risks and issues proactively
- Oversee contractor performance on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with technical and regulatory requirements
- Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental standards, promoting a strong safety culture across the project
- Support commercial management activities, including cost control, forecasting, and reporting
- Provide strong leadership to multidisciplinary project teams, fostering collaboration and clear communication
- Prepare and present clear project reports and updates to senior stakeholders and the client
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience managing and delivering 400kV (or equivalent high-voltage) substation projects
- Experience working directly for or alongside major utilities, network operators, or EPC contractors
- Strong experience working with a range of construction contract forms, particularly NEC3 and/or NEC4
- Demonstrable background in electrical infrastructure projects, ideally within transmission or distribution networks
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
- Strong leadership capability, with experience managing large, multidisciplinary project teams
- Solid understanding of project controls, risk management, and governance in complex infrastructure environments
