Health & Safety Consultant – 12-Week Contract (Retail, Food Safety & Construction H&S Expertise)

Contract Duration: 12 weeks

Location: Flexible / UK-wide travel across retail sites

Hours: Full-Time - 40 hours per week - 8 hours per day


Role Overview

This is a short-term, high-impact consultancy role to develop a clear strategy for retail food, fire, and health & safety. The consultant will assess current processes, identify efficiencies, and support cultural improvements, delivering measurable cost savings and workload reduction.


The successful candidate will have construction health & safety experience, as well as knowledge of retail and food safety environments, enabling them to benchmark current practices, make practical recommendations, and support the implementation of improvements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess current health & safety, fire, and food safety processes across retail sites, comparing them to industry best practice and legal requirements.
  • Identify task efficiencies and workload reduction opportunities, including financial benefits from streamlined processes.
  • Highlight cultural improvement opportunities, strengthening management accountability and embedding a proactive safety mindset.
  • Explore technology, data, and AI solutions to simplify safety monitoring, reporting, and compliance.
  • Work closely with safety, HR, and operations teams to develop actionable recommendations and execution plans.
  • Deliver clear, practical milestones and change plans for process and efficiency improvements.


Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong construction health & safety experience, with knowledge of risk assessment, compliance, and safe working practices.
  • Knowledge of retail and food safety standards (HACCP, internal audits, regulatory compliance).
  • Experience in process improvement and workload reduction, ideally within retail or operational environments.
  • Skilled in stakeholder management and communication, able to influence senior management and operational teams.
  • Technology-literate, able to identify and recommend digital or AI solutions for safety monitoring and reporting.
  • Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results within tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to produce actionable recommendations and support their execution effectively
