Commercial Manager - Children Services
Location: Hybrid with office based in Birmingham
Start Date: Start date ASAP
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £75,000 base salary (negotiable based on experience) + bonuses
About the role
This is a senior, hands-on commercial role supporting a growing children’s services organisation across fostering, residential care and education. Reporting to the Commercial Director, you’ll play a key role in strengthening how pricing, fees and Local Authority relationships are managed day to day.
While financial analysis and modelling form part of the role, this is not a back-office finance position. The emphasis is on applying commercial judgement in real situations by supporting fee negotiations, shaping pricing decisions, and helping colleagues navigate Local Authority conversations with confidence.
You’ll work closely with operational leaders, finance and business development teams, acting as a trusted commercial partner rather than a pure analyst. The role offers genuine visibility and influence, with the opportunity to make an immediate and tangible impact.
About you
- You’ll bring commercial or analytical experience from children’s services, fostering, residential care, education or a social care environment this is a must.
- You understand how commissioning works in practice and are comfortable interpreting contracts, frameworks and fee structures.
- You combine strong commercial acumen with practical judgement and good interpersonal skills.
- You’re confident engaging with internal stakeholders and Local Authorities, able to explain financial positions clearly, and calm when conversations are pressured or ambiguous
- You’re organised, proactive, and trusted to follow things through.
- Strong Excel and analytical capability
- This role suits someone who enjoys being close to decisions, contributing to negotiations, and helping a business feel more commercially in control.
Salary & package
- Salary of £75,000, with flexibility for the right person
- EBITDA-linked bonus
- Hybrid working with travel to Birmingham
