Chronos Energy are currently looking to recruit a Commercial Manager for our client a leading contractor in the District Heating sector. The chosen candidate will play a critical role in the successful execution and financial management of our construction projects. Your primary responsibility will be to estimate material, labour, and equipment costs, ensuring accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints. You will also be responsible for managing project finances, monitoring costs, and providing regular updates to the project team by assisting in Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) process. The ideal candidate will have a strong civils background in the district heating/heat networks sector or other utilities background.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Taking key responsibility for the monitoring of construction projects, to include.


  • Conducting thorough cost analysis and preparing detailed estimates for projects, including materials, labour, and equipment.
  • Producing monthly applications for civils related projects.
  • Management and communication of all variations / early warning notices with clients via CEMAR and other systems.
  • Leading client relationships, including monthly correspondence on applications, certifications and variations
  • Estimating and pricing of new civils opportunities.
  • Collaborating with project managers and engineers to review project plans and specifications, identifying potential cost-saving opportunities.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, including obtaining quotes, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining cost databases, historical cost records, and resource libraries to facilitate accurate estimating and future reference.
  • Monitoring project expenditure against the budget, providing regular CVR reports to the project team and management.
  • Identifying and managing project risks related to costs, proposing mitigation strategies to ensure projects remain within budget.
  • Participating in project meetings and providing expert advice on cost-related matters.
  • Conducting interim and final valuations of work completed, ensuring accurate records are maintained, and payments are processed in a timely manner.
  • Assisting in the preparation of project budgets, tracking costs throughout the project lifecycle, and reporting on any variances. (CVR)
  • Keeping up-to-date with industry trends, market rates, and new construction methodologies, ensuring cost information is current and accurate.



Experience and Knowledge


  • 3 + Years Quantity Surveying and or Civils Experience.


  • Understanding of engineering science, construction and technology.


  • Construction processes and guidelines for effective planning and site management.


  • Understanding of current building and health and safety regulations.


  • High standards of performance and service delivery, contributing to the success of the business


  • Experience in SME and or energy consultancy business environment.


  • Creating and developing relationships with external stakeholders.


Skills

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.


  • Production, presentation and delivery of reports.


  • Proficient in maths for determining building material quantities and construction costs.


  • Leadership skills for motivating workers and maintaining positive and safe work environments.


  • Organisation skills for ensuring multiple projects are completed on time and on budget.


  • Presentation skills


  • Problem solving – site challenges. Providing solutions to problems that may arise and creating and executing a revised plan.


  • Microsoft Office 365 programs.


  • Project Management Software i.e., MS Project, BIM.


  • Financial, commercial acumen.

  • Chartered Member or working towards relevant professional qualification.


  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)


  • Member of RICS.
