Lead Python Engineer | Python, FastAPI, Start-up | Remote, £90-105k

I’m working with a well-funded, mission-driven healthtech company building innovative technology that makes healthcare more accessible and easier to use. They’re scaling their engineering team as they expand their platform across the UK and internationally.

They’re hiring a Lead Python Engineer to take technical ownership of their backend and API layer. This is a senior IC (staff/principal-level) role with real influence over architecture, standards and delivery.

What you’ll be doing:

• Owning backend architecture across core services
• Designing and maintaining scalable APIs (FastAPI)
• Building production-grade Python services (async where appropriate)
• Driving standards around testing, CI/CD, observability and performance
• Partnering closely with product, mobile and web teams

What they’re looking for:

• Strong production experience with Python & FastAPI
• Experience building scalable, maintainable backend systems
• High engineering standards across quality, reliability and performance
• Confident communicating trade-offs and taking ownership

Nice to have:

• SQLAlchemy,
• Docker,
• cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure),
• observability tooling.

Package:

£90,000 to £105,000
