Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer

Akkodis is looking for a Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer

Job description

Role

The engineer will analyze CFD results, identify key aerodynamic phenomena, support performance assessments, and contribute to technical documentation. The role emphasizes practical understanding, curiosity, and the ability to connect theory with real-world aircraft behavior.

Required Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience (internships included) in aerodynamics, CFD, or related aerospace engineering fields.
  • Academic or professional exposure to subsonic and transonic aerodynamics.
  • Initial hands-on experience with at least one CFD or meshing tool.
  • Experience writing technical or academic reports involving data analysis.

Technical Skills

Fluid Dynamics

  • Solid understanding of subsonic and basic transonic flows.
  • Understanding of aerodynamic coefficients (Cp, Cl, Cd, Cm) and their physical meaning.
  • Basic knowledge of drag components and flow separation.
  • Introductory knowledge of turbulence models, Y+, and CFD fundamentals.
  • Basic awareness of compressibility effects and shock waves.

Aeronautics

  • Understanding of how aerodynamic loads affect aircraft performance.
  • Basic knowledge of flight mechanics (control surfaces, wing geometry, stability surfaces).
  • Familiarity with standard aeronautical terminology (MAC, chord, span, HTP, VTP, etc.).
  • Introductory understanding of propulsion concepts (bypass ratio, pressure ratio).

Meshing & Simulation

  • Basic understanding of mesh refinement strategies and local cell sizing.
  • Exposure to at least one meshing tool.

IT & Data Handling

  • Basic Python for data analysis.
  • Basic Bash/Shell scripting.
  • Ability to post-process and visualize data effectively.

Analytical Ability

  • Ability to connect theoretical definitions to physical results (e.g., identify drag sources directly from CFD results).
  • Capability to correlate multiple datasets and extract meaningful conclusions.

Required Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with specialization in fluid dynamics or aerodynamics.
