Fairhurst is growing — and we’re looking for a Senior or Principal Flood Modeller / Flood Hydrologist to join our Water Services team in Glasgow. About the Role

In this role, you’ll contribute to a wide variety of flood risk assessment, flood prevention scheme, drainage, river improvement, reservoir, and major infrastructure projects, helping shape sustainable and high‑quality outcomes for clients across the UK. You’ll join a supportive, collaborative team that values technical excellence, continuous learning, and long‑lasting professional relationships.


What You’ll Be Doing

Technical & Design

  • Leading and delivering flood assessments and developing flood infrastructure concepts
  • Using advanced modelling tools — FloodModeller, TuFLOW, InfoWorks, and GIS
  • Supporting the assessment and design of flood risk mitigation, flood protection schemes, sustainable drainage, reservoir safety projects, and river/environmental improvements
  • Producing robust analysis, modelling, and technical documentation

Project Management

  • Building skills in planning, programme monitoring, risk management, and reporting
  • Contributing to multi‑disciplinary projects including infrastructure, renewables, reservoirs, and urban development
  • Managing resources, deadlines, and deliverables to meet quality and commercial expectations

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Attending meetings and site visits (a valid driving licence is required)
  • Developing strong relationships with clients, regulators, and internal teams
  • Presenting technical information clearly to varied audiences

Quality, Compliance & Leadership

  • Upholding Fairhurst’s high standards for technical, safety, and environmental performance
  • Ensuring transparent, well‑reasoned modelling inputs and assessment outputs
  • Mentoring junior team members and contributing to a positive, knowledge‑sharing culture
  • At Principal level — supporting team leadership or developing specialist expertise


What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • Senior level: Working toward Chartered status with ICE or CIWEM (typically 12–18 months from attainment)
  • Principal level: Chartered Member of ICE or CIWEM
  • Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Water Resources, or similar

Technical Experience

  • Strong background in flood risk assessment, hydrology, or flood modelling
  • Proficiency with FloodModeller, TuFLOW, InfoWorks, and GIS
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • Flood protection schemes
  • Reservoir safety projects
  • River restoration or watercourse improvements
  • Major infrastructure or renewable energy projects
  • Ability to deliver clear, high‑quality technical reports
