Our client is an established and highly regarded engineering company, delivering precision-manufactured components across a range of industries. Due to continued growth and investment in advanced manufacturing capability, they are now seeking an experienced 5 Axis CNC Programmer / Machinist to join their skilled production team.


The role is site-based within a modern, well-equipped facility, working on advanced 5 axis milling machines.


The Role

This is a hands-on, senior-level role focused on programming, setting, and operating advanced 5 axis milling machines. You will be responsible for taking components from drawing through to finished part, ensuring high levels of precision, efficiency, and quality.


The position requires a highly experienced machinist/programmer with strong CAD/CAM capability, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work across both prototype and batch production environments.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Programming components using CAD/CAM software
  • Programming, setting, and operating 5 axis milling machines.
  • Producing complex aluminium components ranging from small to large formats.
  • Working across both prototype and low-to-high batch production runs.
  • Setting up fixtures, tooling, and machine parameters to ensure optimal performance.
  • Interpreting and working from detailed engineering drawings.
  • Ensuring quality standards are maintained throughout the manufacturing process.


Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will be a time-served CNC Programmer / Machinist with significant experience operating advanced 5 axis milling machines in a precision engineering environment.


Essential skills & experience:

  • Time served apprenticeship with 7+ years’ post-training experience.
  • Strong CAD/CAM competence
  • Proven experience programming, setting, and operating 5 axis milling machines.
  • Experience working with Siemens controls.
  • Experience with Heidenhain is beneficial
  • Ability to machine aluminium components to tight tolerances.
  • Experience across both prototype and batch production work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, self-sufficient approach.


This is a senior-level role. Junior or trainee-level applicants will not be considered.


The Package

  • Salary up to £55,000 per annum (depending on experience).
