PLC Control Systems Engineer

Our client is growing their in‑house Controls team and need an experienced Control Systems Engineer who can take ownership across the full lifecycle: design, PLC/HMI/SCADA development, FAT/SAT, and on‑site commissioning.


70% Office/ 30% site as needed by projects. UK travel to customer sites, factories, and FAT locations.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing and developing full control system packages (URS, FDS/DDS, I/O lists, C&E, test plans)
  • Programming PLC/HMI/SCADA systems — Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley/Studio 5000, WinCC/FactoryTalk
  • Integrating generator controllers: DSE, ComAp, Woodward
  • Leading FAT/SAT, loop testing, simulation, site commissioning
  • Troubleshooting PLC, SCADA, comms networks, and industrial protocols
  • Working hands‑on with protection relays, meters, UPS and BMS/EMS interfaces
  • Ensuring compliance with IEC, SIL principles, PUWER, UKCA, ISO9001
  • Mentoring junior engineers and improving our code libraries & standards


What You’ll Bring

  • Strong PLC software development background (writing code from scratch)
  • Experience with industrial power/control systems
  • Understanding of VLANs, NAT, routing, Modbus/Profinet/EtherNetIP/OPC UA
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and work closely with panel build teams
  • Degree/HND in Electrical, Controls, Automation or similar (or equivalent experience)
  • Full UK driving licence + ability to work on UK sites
