Senior Electrical / Controls Systems Engineer

Full-time | On-site (engineering environment)
The Company
A specialist engineering business designing and manufacturing bespoke Electron Beam and Laser Welding systems for advanced manufacturing applications. Due to continued growth and a strong order book, they are expanding their electrical and systems engineering capability.
This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-precision capital equipment in a technically challenging environment.
The Role
This is a senior-level Electrical / Controls Systems position with responsibility across the full machine lifecycle — from concept design through to commissioning.
You will work closely with mechanical design engineers and development teams to deliver robust, compliant and high-performing machine control systems.
Key responsibilities:
- Electrical control system design (schematics, panel layouts, BOMs)
- PLC programming (Siemens and/or Allen Bradley preferred)
- Motion control and servo integration
- HMI system development (PC-based systems advantageous)
- Machinery safety system design (EN60204 / relevant standards)
- Integration of electrical and mechanical systems
- FAT support and commissioning
- Technical support to service and customers where required
- Project reporting into Engineering Director
This role suits someone comfortable working autonomously in an SME environment.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical / Electronic / Control Engineering
- 6+ years’ experience in industrial automation or special purpose machinery
- Strong electrical design capability (Eplan preferred)
- PLC programming experience (Siemens or Allen Bradley)
- Experience working on bespoke machinery or capital equipment
- Understanding of machinery safety and relevant standards
Desirable:
- Motion control / CNC system exposure
- Experience with Wonderware, LabVIEW or PC-based HMI systems
- Commissioning experience
- Multi-disciplinary project experience
