Overview

With a strong focus on safety, innovation, and sustainable delivery, they work in partnership with government and industry to modernise and maintain essential infrastructure.

We are seeking a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to join a specialist design team on a long-term contract. You will lead temporary works engineering activities across a range of complex projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient design solutions. This role requires strong technical leadership, design assurance capability, and effective collaboration with clients, contractors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead temporary works design activities for assigned projects and proposals.
  • Prepare, supervise, check, and approve engineering design documentation in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant standards, legislation, and project specifications.
  • Manage technical quality while delivering work within agreed budgets and schedules.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and legislative requirements.
  • Apply company and client/project policies and procedures throughout design activities.
  • Support project needs through short-term UK and occasional overseas visits, including client liaison, surveys, statutory engagement, construction support, and third-party design oversight.
  • Champion strong Health, Safety, and Environmental performance across all activities.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer (CEng) with substantial temporary works design experience.
  • Expertise in working platforms, cofferdams, retaining walls, scaffold/access systems, demolition engineering, formwork/falsework, steelwork, and concrete design.
  • Strong practical understanding of construction methods with a pragmatic approach to engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative team mindset.
