Control Engineer – PLC & Industrial Automation

Location: Shipley, Bradford

Salary: Up to £55,000

Employment Type: Full-time


Stafforce Recruitment are proud to be supporting a well‑established engineering organisation in West Yorkshire who are looking to appoint an experienced Control Engineer to join their automation team.


This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer with strong PLC experience who enjoys problem‑solving, system optimisation, and delivering high‑quality automation solutions across a range of projects.

About the Role

As a Control Engineer, you will be involved in the full lifecycle of automation projects, including design, programming, commissioning, and ongoing technical support. You will work with a variety of leading platforms and collaborate closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to deliver robust, safe, and efficient control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC control systems
  • Design and configure HMI/SCADA applications
  • Commission and test automation systems on customer sites
  • Modify, improve, and optimise existing control systems
  • Produce accurate electrical and control documentation
  • Provide fault‑finding expertise and technical support
  • Work collaboratively with multi‑discipline engineering teams
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and industry standards


Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong PLC programming experience with at least one of the following:

Siemens: TIA Portal, Step 7

Rockwell/Allen-Bradley: Studio 5000

Mitsubishi: GX Works

  • Proven HMI/SCADA development experience
  • Understanding of industrial automation and control systems
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs
  • Strong diagnostic and commissioning skills


Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of servo drives and motion control
  • Experience with safety PLCs
  • Understanding of functional safety standards
  • Willingness to travel when required for site commissioning
