Job Title: Contracts and Cost Control Engineer
Location: London, Hybrid
Hybrid: 8 days per month working from home
Purpose of the Role
To support the Work Package Manager in the day-to-day management of assigned contracts, ensuring effective cost control, contractual compliance, accurate forecasting, and risk mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.
The role is responsible for verifying contractor pro-forma invoices, validating unit rates and quantities, and reviewing Variation Orders to ensure alignment with contract terms, supporting documentation, and approved benchmarks. The position ensures all costs, changes, and deliverables are consistent with contractual obligations, company policies, and project objectives.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Contract Management Support
- Support the Work Package Manager in managing assigned EPC contracts and ensuring contractor compliance.
- Apply EPC contract terms and conditions consistently across managed contracts.
- Prepare and review company contractual correspondence.
- Support change management activities.
Invoice & Cost Verification
- Lead the verification and approval of contractor pro-forma invoices.
- Confirm milestone achievements, reported quantities, applicable unit rates, and contractual compliance.
- Review contractor timesheets, procurement documentation, equipment logs, and cost reports.
- Verify supporting documentation (measurement sheets, site reports, redlines) with engineering and construction teams.
- Identify non-reimbursable or non-compliant cost items.
Variation & Change Control
- Review Variation Orders (VOs) to ensure pricing aligns with contract terms, supporting documentation, and approved benchmarks.
- Maintain logs for invoices, costs, and variations.
- Prepare Work/Service Orders and SAP uploads as required.
Forecasting & Reporting
- Support cost and cash flow forecasting.
- Identify unauthorized or unsupported costs and propose corrective actions.
- Coordinate with the Project Control Department.
- Prepare and contribute to cost and commercial reporting.
Education & Professional Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Experience & Technical Competencies
- 5–10+ years’ experience in cost control or contract engineering within EPC project execution.
- Strong experience in unit-rate reimbursable contracts or BoQ-based measurement systems.
- Proven reporting experience.
- Proficiency in quantity measurement, BoQ interpretation, and unit-rate analysis.
- Strong understanding of EPC contract structures and change control mechanisms.
- Experience with cost control systems (e.g., SAP, Prism, EcoSys) and advanced Excel skills.
- Solid understanding of engineering drawings and construction methods.
- Ability to write reports in prescribed formats and styles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
- Ability to read, analyse and interpret engineering, technical, financial and legal documentation.
