Job description
Role Purpose
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in developing safe, compliant, and efficient electrical designs for bespoke modular solutions and engineered systems. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams — including project engineers, fabrication teams, and site services — to produce detailed electrical design documentation, layouts, calculations and ensure technical excellence from concept through delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed electrical design solutions for modular energy, electrical systems, and engineered products.
- Produce technical drawings and documents including single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, cable schedules and design specifications.
- Perform electrical calculations and component selection that meet regulatory, safety, and client requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams (mechanical, structural, fabrication, project management) to ensure design integration and constructability.
- Contribute to project planning and support design reviews, value engineering sessions, and technical meetings.
- Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant UK and international standards, codes, and best practices including BS 7671/IET Wiring Regulations.
- Support site activities as required (design queries, technical clarifications, commissioning support).
- Maintain accurate design records and ensure adherence to company quality and safety systems.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in electrical design engineering (typically 3+ years).
- Strong technical understanding of electrical systems, layouts, wiring, and protection design.
- Competence producing detailed design documentation and technical drawings.
- Sound knowledge of UK electrical standards and statutory regulations.
- Proficiency with electrical design tools such as AutoCAD, and/or relevant design/calculation software.
Desirable:
- Experience with modular or containerised solutions, hazardous area design, or energy storage/hybrid systems.
- Knowledge of cable routing, LV/HV systems up to relevant voltages, and power distribution.
- Familiarity with engineering lifecycle processes, project delivery, and multidisciplinary integration.
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Clear communication skills, capable of working with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Able to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with a strong safety mindset and commitment to quality.
