Type: Hybrid (UK) | Permanent | Full-time

Reporting to: COO/Sales Director


The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Commercial & Contracts Manager to take ownership of our clients commercial and contractual risk across complex energy and construction projects. This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who operates confidently in live commercial environments - shaping deals, negotiating contracts, protecting margin and guiding stakeholders from bid stage through delivery.


You’ll act as the commercial authority within the business, supporting sales, delivery and leadership teams to structure robust agreements, challenge risk positions where needed, and embed strong commercial discipline as the organisation grows across public sector and industrial & commercial markets.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act as the commercial authority across complex energy and construction projects, leading contract review, negotiation and risk positioning.
  • Negotiate and amend JCT (Design & Build), NEC, bespoke energy contracts, PPAs and framework agreements to ensure commercially robust outcomes.
  • Support sales and bid teams to structure sound, deliverable deals with clear governance and risk sign-off prior to contract execution.
  • Protect margin by identifying contractual and delivery risks early, embedding effective change control and commercial safeguards.
  • Lead commercial negotiations with clients, consultants and counterparties alongside senior leadership.
  • Ensure smooth handover to delivery teams and provide ongoing support on variations, claims and dispute avoidance.
  • Work cross-functionally with Sales, Finance and Operations to align commercial strategy with operational reality.


What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Strong experience in a senior commercial/contracts role within energy, construction, infrastructure or complex engineering
  • Proven capability negotiating JCT Design & Build amendments (not just reviewing)
  • Experience operating across complex, high-value projects with multiple stakeholders and delivery risk
  • Strong commercial acumen: margin, cashflow, risk and delivery impact awareness
  • Confident challenging senior stakeholders constructively and holding firm on key principles

Desirable

  • Experience in energy/renewables/utilities/energy services (solar, lighting, CHP, infrastructure)
  • Knowledge of NEC and alternative contracting models
  • Experience with solution-based or performance-linked long-term agreements
  • Background in commercial management, QS or legal (formal qualification beneficial, not essential)
