Technical Sales Manager

Greg O'Hanlon International Ltd is looking for a Technical Sales Manager

Job description

Company:

Our client is a well-established, blue-chip distributor of premium and specialist ingredients serving the pharmaceutical, food, and animal nutrition sectors across the UK and Ireland. Operating for several decades as part of a large international group, the business represents a portfolio of leading global manufacturers and supplies high-quality, branded ingredients to a broad customer base.

The organisation combines a strong local market presence with the backing of a global network, providing customers with reliable supply and value-added technical support. The business has a long-standing reputation for quality, professionalism, and partnership, and continues to invest in people, technical capability, and long-term customer relationships across its animal nutrition division.

Opportunity:

This is a technical sales role within the animal nutrition division, supporting and developing key customer relationships across the UK and Ireland.

The role offers exposure to a high-quality portfolio of differentiated feed ingredients and additives and is well suited to an individual with a solid grounding in animal nutrition who is keen to broaden their commercial responsibility. The position has a clear development trajectory and would suit someone motivated by long-term progression, with the potential to take on increased responsibility within the Irish agri business over time.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage long-term customer relationships, ensuring clients are supported with clear, accurate, and value-adding product and technical information.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities, manage the sales pipeline, and deliver performance in line with agreed revenue and budget targets.
  • Work in close partnership with supplier principals to support projects, product positioning, and the achievement of regional sales objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal supply chain colleagues to support demand forecasting, stock management, and pricing decisions, ensuring continuity of supply and commercial alignment.
  • Build strong professional relationships with nutritionists, formulators, and key decision-makers across feed mills and pre-mix customers, operating effectively across both direct and indirect routes to market.
  • Coordinate with the marketing team on relevant market-facing activities, including participation in industry events, exhibitions, and trade shows.
  • Liaise with quality and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with EU legislation and to support product trials and technical validation in collaboration with supplier principals.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A degree in Animal Nutrition, Animal Science, Agricultural Science, or a closely related discipline (BSc or MSc), with typically 3–8 years’ post-graduate experience in a technical or commercial role within the animal nutrition or feed sector.
  • Practical experience gained within a co-op, agri-merchant, feed business, pre-mix company, or feed additive supplier, with exposure to customers such as feed mills or pre-mixers.
  • Demonstrated experience working with one or more of the following areas: premixes, mineral blends, compound feed, aqua feed, or livestock feed ingredients.
  • Strong commercial aptitude, supported by credible technical understanding and the ability to build effective professional relationships.
  • A self-motivated, proactive individual who is comfortable working independently in the field, travelling extensively, and contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within both the UK and Ireland and to attend our client’s offices regularly for meetings with support staff and colleagues.

Remuneration:

A competitive remuneration package is on offer, with a base salary in the region of £60,000 –

£70,000, plus performance-related bonus, company car, and a comprehensive benefits package including annual leave, pension provision, and support for ongoing professional development.
