Design Assurance Lead – Data Centres

This consultancy is a global provider of data centre services, specialising in the development and operation of high performance, scalable, and secure data centre facilities. They support a diverse client base including hyperscale cloud providers, telecommunications operators, and enterprise customers.
We are seeking an experienced MEP and Fire Subject Matter Expert to act as a technical authority across the full project lifecycle, providing design assurance, technical governance, and final technical sign-off of engineering solutions delivered to end customers.
This role will support projects across preconstruction, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness phases, ensuring all technical designs meet data centre performance, resilience, and life safety standards.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Authority & Design Assurance
- Act as technical sign-off authority for MEP and Fire/Life Safety designs prior to client submission.
- Provide independent technical review of consultant and contractor design deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with relevant data centre standards
- Validate engineering designs meet performance, redundancy, resilience, and operational requirements.
- Provide technical risk identification and mitigation strategies.
- Support client technical queries and provide engineering justification where required.
Preconstruction
- Lead technical due diligence of third party and colocation data centre facilities.
- Provide technical input into contractor pre-qualification and bid evaluation processes.
- Support technical elements of contract negotiations
- Lead constructability reviews from an MEP and fire engineering perspective.
- Review engineering strategies, system architectures, and life safety strategies.
- Support vendor and consultant technical selection and scope definition.
- Provide technical oversight of design changes and engineering-related change control.
- Review and technically approve change orders impacting MEP systems.
- Support value engineering while protecting technical performance and compliance.
- Ensure QA/QC processes are aligned to technical and compliance requirements.

- Technical support through fit-out, commissioning, and operational transition.
