Health and Safety Manager


Location: Brentwood (with ad-hoc regional travel)


Salary: £45,000-£50,000 + Car or Car Allowance


Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to lead and enhance Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) practices across a growing operational business. This is a key leadership position responsible for embedding a positive safety culture, ensuring statutory compliance, and driving continuous improvement across multiple sites within the region.


This role will suit a proactive and solutions-focused H&S professional who is confident working across operational teams, engaging with stakeholders, and influencing at all levels of the organisation.


The Role


Safety Leadership & Culture

  • Champion a strong, values-led safety culture across the business.
  • Promote awareness through toolbox talks, training sessions and ongoing engagement initiatives.
  • Lead by example, reinforcing high standards of safe working practices and procedural compliance.

Compliance & Management Systems

  • Develop, review and maintain Health & Safety policies, procedures and Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant UK legislation and industry best practice.
  • Support and maintain ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Proactively identify hazards and implement control measures to mitigate operational risk and reduce external liabilities.

Training & Capability Development

  • Identify training needs to maintain workforce competence and compliance.
  • Deliver and coordinate H&S training across operational and management teams.
  • Provide guidance and support in the preparation and review of risk assessments and safe systems of work.

Team & Contractor Oversight

  • Provide leadership and direction to the internal H&S function, including site auditors.
  • Oversee contractor and supply chain onboarding, ensuring adherence to required safety standards.
  • Act as a key point of contact for client representatives in relation to H&S matters.

Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct and oversee routine site inspections and audits.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Produce regular performance reports, highlighting trends and recommending improvements.
  • Support senior leadership with the development of project-specific HSEQ documentation and management plans.

Candidate Profile

  • NEBOSH Level 3 (General Certificate) or equivalent qualification as a minimum.
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar senior H&S role within telecoms, utilities or construction environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
