This role offers a rare opportunity to work closely with a Senior Fee Earner on a portfolio of high-value, complex Catastrophic Injury and Clinical Negligence claims, involving significant quantum and challenging liability issues.


These are not routine cases. They often involve life-changing injuries, vulnerable clients, complex medical evidence, and substantial damages, offering exceptional exposure for a legal professional looking to deepen their expertise in serious injury and clinical negligence work and progress within a high-quality litigation practice.


This role will suit a qualified lawyer and Grade A or B Fee Earner who is motivated by intellectually demanding work and who wants to play a meaningful role in delivering outstanding outcomes for clients at the most difficult times in their lives.


Job Description

  • Taking initial instructions from clients and preparing draft witness statements
  • Preparing draft letters of claim and other pre-action correspondence
  • Diarising key dates and ensuring compliance with court timetables and procedural deadlines
  • Liaising with experts, counsel, clients and other general enquiries as required
  • Attending in conference with counsel, both in person and remotely
  • Taking witness statements re liability and quantum
  • Researching quantum and other issues as required
  • Preparing court documents including claim forms, schedules of loss, particulars of claim, lists of documents etc.
  • Instructing and briefing counsel
  • Other Legal Assistant activities as directed by the supervisor


Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified lawyer with the capability to operate at Grade A or B Fee Earner level
  • Experience of, or a strong demonstrable interest in, High-Value Personal Injury litigation, including Catastrophic injury and/or Clinical Negligence claims
  • Good knowledge of legal practice and should have an understanding/ experience of the MOJ portal, litigation processes, and the Civil Procedure Rules
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
  • Strong initiative and dexterity of thought: cases are rarely straightforward
  • Compassion and empathy
  • A good mathematical, analytical brain
  • Excellent communication skills
