Aviation Maintenance & Operations

Location: Teesside International Airport Contract: Full-time, Permanent


About the Team

Willis Aviation Services Limited is expanding its, Risk & Compliance, Safety & Compliance function to support its growing Part-145 Approved Maintenance Organisation and wider aviation operations, including aircraft maintenance, storage, disassembly, recycling, fixed base operations and ground handling.


This team plays a critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance, operational safety, risk management, and continuous improvement, while promoting a strong culture across the organisation.


We are seeking experienced aviation professionals to join a multi-level Safety & Compliance Team, including management and surveyor/auditor capability.


Team Structure (Indicative)


· Safety & Compliance Manager (Nominated Person / Form 4 Holder)

· Deputy Safety & Compliance Manager

· Safety & Compliance Surveyor(s) / Auditor(s)

(Applications are welcomed across this structure depending on experience.)


Key Responsibilities (Role-Dependent)


Governance & Compliance


· Manage and maintain the Compliance Monitoring System in accordance with UK CAA & EASA Part-145 requirements

· Establish, implement and continually improve an independent audit programme

· Identify, document and manage non-compliance, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions

· Monitor amendments to organisational procedures, MOE and standard practices, ensuring regulatory alignment

· Liaise with Competent Authorities and support submissions, approvals and ongoing oversight

· Assess approved suppliers, subcontractors and contracted maintenance organisations


Safety & Risk Management


· Support and manage the Safety Management System (SMS)

· Facilitate hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation

· Manage occurrence reporting, investigations and follow-up actions

· Provide safety performance reporting and analytics to senior management


Assurance, Training & Capability


· Conduct internal and external audits across maintenance, disassembly and ground handling activities

· Support issue, renewal and control of certifying staff and support staff authorisations

· Develop and maintain safety and compliance training programmes

· Ensure competency assessment, continuation training and accurate record keeping

· Feed audit findings and safety data into continuous improvement initiatives

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

· Deputise for nominated post holders where appropriate

· Engage effectively with engineers, managers, regulators and external partners

· Support the development of an Integrated Management System (IMS) across WASL operations


Essential Requirements


· Appropriate professional background, including one or more of the following:

o Valid or previously held UK CAA Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML)

o Aeronautical Engineering Degree

o Substantial experience in aircraft maintenance or continuing airworthiness

· Minimum 5 years’ experience in an aviation maintenance or CAMO environment (management roles may require more)

· Strong working knowledge of UK CAA & EASA Part-145 regulations

· Experience with MOE development, amendment and compliance

· Auditing skills and experience (formal training desirable/essential depending on role)

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving capability

· Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a team


Desirable (Role Dependent)


· Eligibility or prior acceptance as a Nominated Person / Form 4 Holder

· Human Factors (HF) training

· Fuel Tank Safety (FTS / CDCCL) training

· Electrical Wiring Interconnect System (EWIS) training

· Safety investigation and root cause analysis experience

· Leadership or people-management experience
